For Valentines, Dave bought me a bird feeder and a bag of mixed bird seed with dried fruit in it. We placed it above our porch, but the birds seemed hesitant to come to it, so we moved it to the tree. Since then, the birds have been very grateful, but messy guests, dropping their seed all over our lawn.
The other night, while we were in the backyard, we noticed something ~ all the seeds on the ground were peanuts! All this while we thought the birds were being sloppy, but learned that they were being selective! Now that we know of their preference, we will not be buying bird seed with peanuts in it anymore! LOL
(Can you find the two male House Finches in the picture above?)And this morning while we were watching the birds, an American Goldfinch graced our feeder. It was such a treat.
Tidbit ~ American Goldfinches have a winter plumage, which the one in our tree is adorning, but during the summer their backs and stomaches are a bright yellow.

How fun! Birds are funny and finicky about things. Good job being quick enough to get the pictures of the birds at your feeder! I'm just so happy to be seeing (and hearing) birds again.
That's so cool Chanelle! I heard some birds outside our house but don't know that much about them. My boys would love to learn more about them. I'll have to talk to you about that sometime. That's hilarious about the peanuts.
